Named after the ‘Avenue of the Cosmonauts’ and the prison chaplain Harald Poelchau.
The Allee der Kosmonauten got its name on 22 September 1978 in the presence of Valery Bykovsky and Sigmund Jähn, the first German in space, after their Soyuz 31 flight. Poelchaustraße, called Karl-Maron-Straße until 1992, honours Harald Poelchau (1903–1972), who accompanied about a thousand people to their execution and helped Jews go into hiding.
