Named after the Heinersdorf water tower, a local landmark.
The 46-metre tower was built in 1910 as the first part of a planned town hall, which was never built: the First World War intervened, and in 1920 Heinersdorf became part of Greater Berlin. In 1944 an anti-aircraft position was installed on it. The street, once Wasserturmstraße, got its present name in 1925.
