Named after two streets that meet here: Friedrich-Engels-Straße and Eichenstraße.
Friedrich-Engels-Straße honours the philosopher Friedrich Engels (1820–1895), Karl Marx’s collaborator; it was renamed in 1951, having been Kaiserweg from 1899 and, further north, Reichskanzlerdamm from 1916. Eichenstraße (‘Oak Street’), laid out in 1899 and named by 1902, echoes the crossing Waldstraße (‘Forest Street’).
