Friedrichshagen

Named after Friedrichshagen, a colonists’ village founded under King Friedrich II.

Friedrichshagen was founded on 29 May 1753 on the orders of Friedrich II as a village for colonists, mostly cotton spinners from Bohemia and Silesia. To earn extra money from the sweet berries, they planted several hundred mulberry trees. Since 2003 a bronze statue of the king, modelled on one put up in 1904, has stood on the market square.
