Named after the town of Hennigsdorf, the ‘village of Henneke’.
The place is first recorded in 1375 as Heynekendorp. Hennigsdorf is thus the ‘village of Hen(n)eke’, a pet form of names such as Heinrich, later mixed with Henning or Hennig. Long a village of fishermen and smallholders, it changed when AEG opened a works here in 1910. The station opened in 1893.
