Klinikum im Friedrichshain

Named after the hospital by the Volkspark Friedrichshain.

Opened in 1874, it was Berlin’s first municipal hospital. Rudolf Virchow was among its initiators, and Martin Gropius and Heino Schmieden designed its pavilions. The park, the Friedrichshain (‘Hain’ = grove), was created from 1846 and named after King Friedrich II.
