Named after the Kurfürstendamm, the elector's old causeway to his hunting lodge.
Around 1542 a causeway ('Damm') was laid from the Berlin palace to the Grunewald hunting lodge as a bridle path for Elector ('Kurfürst') Joachim II. The name Churfürsten Damm first appears on a map made between 1767 and 1787. Berliners call the boulevard 'Ku'damm'; the station lies at its eastern end.
