Named after the Obersee (‘upper lake’), a small lake in Alt-Hohenschönhausen.
The lake was created in 1895 as a water reservoir and ice supply for a brewery. It is called ‘upper’ because its water level lies about 1.5 metres higher than that of the neighbouring Orankesee. At No. 60 stands Haus Lemke, the last house Ludwig Mies van der Rohe designed in Germany before he emigrated.
