Named after Residenzstraße, the road that led to the royal ‘Residenz’ of Berlin.
A Residenz is the seat of a ruler. In 1874 this was still the Reinickendorfer Chaussee; the name Residenzstraße referred to the road via Wedding to the royal residence city of Berlin and appears on the 1877 map. Architect Rainer G. Rümmler took up the theme: the station, opened in 1987, shows views of fortified old Berlin on walls the colour of yellowed paper.
