Named after Rudow, an old village first recorded in 1373.
Finds from around 1200 point to an earlier late-Slavic settlement. According to the Brandenburg book of place names, the name comes from a Polabian form ‘Rudov’, from the Slavic ‘ruda’, meaning ‘red earth’ or ‘iron ore’. The station opened in 1972 as the southern terminus of the U7, serving the new housing blocks built in and around the old village.
