Named after Schönleinstraße, which honours the physician Johann Lukas Schönlein.
Johann Lukas Schönlein (1793–1864) is regarded as the founder of the modern clinical method in Germany. From 1840 he worked at the Charité in Berlin, and from 1842 he was personal physician to King Friedrich Wilhelm IV. He recognised tuberculosis as a disease in its own right and gave it its name. From 1951 to 1992 the station was called Kottbusser Damm.
