Named after Werneuchen, a small town north-east of Berlin.
The street was named before 1906 after Werneuchen, a small town in the Barnim in Brandenburg. It is the main street of Hohenschönhausen’s Märkisches Viertel, laid out around 1900, whose streets are named after places in the eastern Mark Brandenburg.
