Named after Wilmersdorfer Straße, the old road from Charlottenburg to Wilmersdorf.
Once a field path called Kleine Spreestraße, it became Wilmersdorfischer Weg around 1794 and Wilmersdorfer Straße before 1824, because it led directly from Charlottenburg to the village of Wilmersdorf. Wilmersdorf was first recorded in 1293; whether the village or the knightly Wilmersdorff family came first is unclear. The station's wall tiles take up the lilies of Wilmersdorf's coat of arms.
