Wuhlheide

Köpenick

Named after the Wuhlheide, a forest named after the river Wuhle.

When it opened in the winter of 1877/1878, the stop was called Sadowa, after an excursion restaurant at the mouth of the Wuhle. The restaurant took its name from Sadowa in Bohemia, the main site of the Battle of Königgrätz in the Austro-Prussian War of 1866. In 1929 the station was renamed after the Wuhlheide (‘Heide’ = heath), the forest that surrounds it.
