Named after Brondesbury, the manor of a man called Brand, and its park.
The manor, also written Brands or Broomsbury, almost certainly took its name from Brand, who appears in records around 1200. It was a prebend of St Paul's Cathedral in the parish of Willesden, held by its prebendaries until 1840. Humphry Repton landscaped the grounds of its manor house for Lady Salusbury, and houses spread across Brondesbury from the late 1860s.
