Named after Carpenders Park, an estate called after the Carpenter family.
The Victoria County History says the estate took its name from the Carpenters, who held it in the 17th and 18th centuries. In the reign of George II it belonged to Hatch Moody, whose son Samuel rebuilt the house. The manor house later became Highfields, a girls’ school, and was demolished in 1960.
