'Kingsland' recalls land once owned by the king.
Kingsland was a roadside village on the Old North Road, recorded as a settlement in the 14th century. Hidden London puts the name down to former royal ownership of parts of Hackney; another account links it to the hunting grounds of a Tudor royal house at Newington Green. The first station here, opened in 1850, was simply called Kingsland.
