Golders Green

Barnet

Named after the Godyere family, who held land here in the 14th century.

It was originally Godyere’s Green, an open space beside their land. The green was the manorial common at a crossroads, next to which the settlement grew up, in the parish and manor of Hendon. John Rocque’s map of 1754 shows what is now Golders Green Road as Groles Green.
