'Heathrow' means the row of houses on the heath.
It was first recorded in about 1410 as La Hetherewe, a lane in the parish of Harmondsworth with farms on one side and common heathland on the other, next to Hounslow Heath. The hamlet was demolished in 1944 to build London Airport, which later took its name. Terminal 4 opened in 1986, with its own station on a loop of the Piccadilly line.
