Named after Holland House, a 17th-century mansion whose grounds became the park.
Sir Walter Cope built the house in 1605 as Cope Castle. It passed by marriage to Henry Rich, who renamed it Holland House after he was made Earl of Holland, a title taken from an area of Lincolnshire, not the Netherlands. Later the Fox family, Barons Holland, lived there, and the district built on its grounds took the house's name.
