Mansion House

City of London

Named after Mansion House, the official residence of the Lord Mayor of London.

It was built between 1739 and 1752 by George Dance the Elder, on the site of the old Stocks Market, to end the inconvenient practice of lodging the Lord Mayor in one of the City livery company halls. The station opened in 1871, but despite its name, Bank and Cannon Street stations are both nearer to the house.
