Named after the Royal Albert Dock, which honours Albert, Queen Victoria's husband.
The dock was completed in 1880 as an extension of the Victoria Dock and is the second of the three Royal Docks; the King George V Dock followed in 1921. The docks are 'Royal' because they were named after members of the royal family, not because the Crown owned them.
