Westferry

Tower Hamlets

Named after Westferry Road – though there never was a 'west ferry'.

Greenwich watermen ran a passenger ferry from the southern tip of the Isle of Dogs. In 1812, when a horse ferry was added, two roads were built to reach it: East Ferry Road down the middle of the island and Westferry Road down its west side. The station is really in Limehouse, but that name went to the renamed Stepney East.
