Named after Gabriel de Marie (1795–1868), mayor of Luxembourg City.
Born in Frankfurt, this merchant was elected in 1848 to the assembly that wrote a new constitution for Luxembourg in the revolutionary wave of that year. King-Grand Duke William III later appointed him mayor of the capital, an office he held from 1850 to 1854. The city named this street in Cents after him in 1968.
