Named after Maurice Barrès (1862–1923), French writer and politician.
Born at Charmes in the Vosges, Barrès went to school in Nancy and was elected deputy for Nancy at 27. In 1906 he was elected to the Académie française. An anti-Dreyfusard, he was one of the main figures of French nationalism, at a time when many in France dreamt of winning back Alsace-Lorraine. Luxembourg City named a street after him.
