'Paräisser Plaz' is Luxembourgish for Place de Paris.
The state laid out the square on former fortress land after the Adolphe Bridge was built, and the city council named it on 5 December 1907; before that it was Place de l'Éventail. We have not yet found out why the council chose Paris. Until 1920 the square marked the border between the city and the commune of Hollerich, and goods brought into town were taxed here.
