145th Street, one of the wide crosstown streets of Manhattan’s 1811 grid.
The Commissioners’ Plan of 1811, which laid out Manhattan’s numbered street grid, mapped 145th Street as one of 15 crosstown streets. In Harlem it forms the southern border of Sugar Hill, and at its eastern end it continues into the Bronx as the 145th Street Bridge.
