Named after 176th Street, which meets Jerome Avenue at the station.
In the Bronx, Jerome Avenue divides the numbered streets into East and West, continuing Manhattan’s system, where Fifth Avenue is the dividing line; a MetroFocus guide to the grid calls Jerome Avenue ‘the Bronx’s Fifth Avenue’. Much of the West Bronx’s numbering carries over from upper Manhattan, without matching it exactly.
