Named after 20th Avenue, part of Brooklyn's grid of numbered avenues.
20th Avenue is one of Brooklyn's avenues numbered 1 to 28, which with the numbered streets form a street grid. In Bensonhurst this grid was laid over older country lanes, such as Bennett's Lane and De Bruyn's Lane, which were not supposed to survive; an 1890 map by Elisha Robinson shows the numbered grid superimposed on the old roads.
