Named after the crossing of Third Avenue and East 149th Street, known as the Hub.
Two rapid transit lines and trolley lines along Third Avenue and 149th Street met here, and the shops that followed led to the name ‘the Hub’ in the early 20th century, short for ‘the Hub of the Bronx’. East 149th Street is also known as Eugenio Maria de Hostos Boulevard.
