34 St–Penn Station (A C E)

Midtown, Manhattan

Named after 34th Street and Penn Station, built by the Pennsylvania Railroad.

Penn Station is named for the Pennsylvania Railroad, its builder and original owner; the original station fully opened on 27 November 1910. Its head house and train shed were torn down in 1963, and the rail lines were reorganised into the smaller underground station of today. 34th Street was one of the 15 east–west streets that the Commissioners’ Plan of 1811 made 100 feet wide.
