59th Street is the street of the ‘59th Street Bridge’.
The Commissioners’ Plan of 1811 created 59th Street as one of Manhattan’s minor crosstown streets. At Second Avenue it branches onto the Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge, which is often called the 59th Street Bridge. Its three blocks along Central Park were renamed after the park in 1896 and are known as Central Park South.
