Bay Parkway takes the place of 22nd Avenue in Brooklyn’s numbered grid.
The state legislature renamed the road a parkway in 1892, to make land along it more desirable, though Wikipedia dates the end of the 22nd Avenue name to the 1930s; the station opened in 1916 as Bay Parkway–22nd Avenue. In October 2026 the corner with 86th Street was co-named Canton Avenue, honouring early Cantonese immigrants who helped build the Transcontinental Railroad.
