Forest Hills–71 Av

Forest Hills, Queens

Forest Hills was named in 1906 after nearby Forest Park.

The area was originally called Whitepot. In 1906 the Cord Meyer Development Company, headed by Brooklyn attorney Cord Meyer, bought six farms here and renamed the land Forest Hills, after Forest Park. 71st Avenue is also known as Continental Avenue, the name used in nearby Forest Hills Gardens, and the station was formerly called 71st–Continental Avenue.
