Named after Jefferson Avenue, the street it serves.
Unlike most Staten Island Railway stations, which take the name of a neighbourhood, this one, between Grant City and Dongan Hills, is named for its street. In neighbouring Grant City many streets are named after historical figures, among them Lincoln Avenue, after President Abraham Lincoln, and Adams Avenue, after President John Adams.
