Named after John Albert Morris, who built the Morris Park Racecourse.
The racecourse hosted horse racing from 1889 until 1904; in 1890 it staged both the Preakness and the Belmont Stakes, and the Belmont was run there until 1904. The station is on Paulding Avenue, one of several local streets, with Cruger, Holland, Radcliff, Colden and Hone Avenues, named after mayors of New York of the 18th and 19th centuries.
