Oakwood Heights

Staten Island

Named after Oakwood; locals usually leave off the ‘Heights’.

The stop opened in 1860 as Richmond, as it stood on the border between Richmond and Oakwood. Around 1885 it became Court House, then Oakwood, and finally Oakwood Heights. Forgotten New York calls the ‘Heights’ a misnomer: the nearest heights are at Lighthouse Hill, about a mile away, and to residents the neighbourhood is simply Oakwood.
