Bonne Nouvelle

Paris 2e, 9e, 10e

Named after the boulevard and quarter of Bonne-Nouvelle, after the church of Notre-Dame-de-Bonne-Nouvelle.

Bonne Nouvelle means 'good news': the church begun here in 1624 was dedicated to Notre-Dame-de-Bonne-Nouvelle in memory of the Annunciation. It gave its name to the quarter and to the boulevard, laid out on the site of Louis XIII's old city wall under letters patent of July 1676. Today's church was built in 1823–1830.
