Named after the rue des Couronnes, after an old place called les Couronnes sous Savies.
Savies, a name said to mean ‘wild mountain’, was the name of Belleville from the 7th to the early 18th century. In 1060 King Henri I gave the abbey of Saint-Martin-des-Champs land between today's rue de Belleville and rue des Couronnes, with a farm that kept the name ferme de Savies until it was destroyed in 1913.
