Named after the avenue Ledru-Rollin, which honours Alexandre Ledru-Rollin (1807–1874).
Born Alexandre Auguste Ledru, the lawyer added Rollin, his maternal grandmother's maiden name, so as not to be confused with a fellow lawyer. In 1848, as minister of the interior of the provisional government, he had universal male suffrage adopted by decree. An order of 16 August 1879 united the avenue's sections, one of them shown on an 1878 map as the avenue Lacuée, under his name.
