Télégraphe

Paris 19e, 20e

Named after the rue du Télégraphe, after Claude Chappe's optical telegraph.

Chappe (1763–1805) set up one of his telegraph towers on this high point of the Belleville hill. The station is very deep, yet its tracks, 96 metres above sea level, are the highest point of the whole metro. It opened in 1935.
