Named after Aspernstraße, which preserves the name of the old village of Aspern.
The street has borne this name since 29 July 1909, to keep alive the name of Aspern, a village that joined Vienna in 1904/05. Aspern made world history in the battle of 21–22 May 1809, when an army personally commanded by Napoleon failed for the first time to win, against Archduke Charles. A stone lion by Anton Dominik Fernkorn (1858) honours the fallen Austrian soldiers.
