Named after the Burgring, the stretch of the Ringstraße in front of the Hofburg.
The name was given in 1863, when the Ringstraße was laid out on the land of the demolished city walls; this section runs past the imperial palace, the Hofburg (‘Burg’). The Kunsthistorisches and Naturhistorisches Museum stand on one side, the Burggarten and Volksgarten on the other. In 1934 it lost a stretch to a new part of the Ring.
