Named after Heiligenstadt and the square recalling the February fighting of 1934.
The square in front of the Karl-Marx-Hof was named on 10 January 1985 after the fighting of 12–15 February 1934 between the outlawed Social Democratic Schutzbund and the Dollfuß dictatorship, which left several hundred dead; the Karl-Marx-Hof was shelled by artillery. It was Heiligenstädter Platz from 1935 to 1985. Heiligenstadt (‘holy place’) supposedly owes its name to St Severin.
