Named after the Battle of Höchstädt (Blenheim) of 1704.
The square was named on 17 February 1899 after the battle of 13 August 1704 in the War of the Spanish Succession, in which Prince Eugene and the Duke of Marlborough defeated the French and Bavarians. The English know it as the Battle of Blenheim. The streets here were only laid out after the Danube regulation of 1868–1875.
