Named after the waltz composer Johann Strauss the Younger.
The lane, previously Igelgasse, was named on 5 July 1899, a month after the death of Johann Strauss the Younger (1825–1899) on 3 June 1899. The composer and court ball music director died in his small palace on this lane, the former No. 6; a plaque on today's building at No. 4–6 recalls him.
