Nußdorfer Straße

Alsergrund, Währing

Named after Nußdorfer Straße, the road to the village of Nußdorf.

The street, recorded from 1721, was named in 1862 after its destination, Nußdorf, a former village that became part of the 19th district, Döbling, in 1890/1892. Nußdorf (‘nut village’) probably got its name from the many nut trees growing there. Even in the early 19th century, an avenue of nut trees lined the road further out, today’s Heiligenstädter Straße.
