Named after an old field name, ‘an der Sandleiten’ – the sandy slope.
The lane was named on 18 July 1894 after the historic field name, which referred to a sandy slope with sand pits. In Ottakring it was previously called Dornbacher Straße. The Sandleiten housing estate stands at Nos. 43–51.
