Named after Ahrensfelde, the Brandenburg municipality at the city boundary (‘Stadtgrenze’).
Ahrensfelde borders Marzahn to the north. It was first recorded in 1375 as ‘Arnsfelt’ and was probably named after a builder (Bauherr) from Berlin. When Marzahn was built in the 1970s, Ahrensfelde lost 56 hectares to Berlin; that part of Marzahn is still popularly called Berlin-Ahrensfelde.
