Named after Ahrensfelde, the Brandenburg municipality just across the city boundary.
Ahrensfelde was first recorded in 1375 as ‘Arnsfelt’ and was probably named after a builder (Bauherr) from Berlin. Despite its name, the station never stood on Ahrensfelde land; it lies right on the border. When Marzahn was built in the 1970s, Ahrensfelde lost 56 hectares to Berlin, an area still popularly called Berlin-Ahrensfelde.
